The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Uppsala University is one of the most international, broad and distinguished biomolecular departments in Europe. Research interests, ranging all the way from cell biology down to the biophysics of single molecules, are divided into six specialty programs in the Department.
The System developer we are looking for will be placed at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, but affiliated with Bioinformatics Infrastructure for Life Sciences (BILS). BILS is a distributed national research infrastructure funded by the Swedish Research Council. BILS provides bioinformatics support and infrastructure to Swedish life science researchers. Description of Work:
- Develop and implement data management and storage solutions for large scale research data.
- Create and deploy user friendly web interfaces for data management and storage.
- Develop and implement information security solutions.
- Provide end-user support in data management and data storage.
A civil engineering degree in Computer Technology/Science, or competence within the computer technology field acquired in other ways. Furthermore, demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas is needed:
- GNU/Linux systems administration.
- Storage technology.
- Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure (federated identity management, x509).
- Web development and web application frameworks.
- Virtualisation solutions (e.g. OpenStack).
- Databases – development and administration.
- Data management (metadata, persistent identifiers).
The successful applicant should have excellent interpersonal skills, initiative and good communication qualities. The applicant should also be quality conscious and goal- and results-oriented. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are requirements. Particular emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
