Job description: The successful applicant will apply both genomic and bioinformatic expertise to unravelling the genetics of complex traits, namely behaviour and inherited disease (e.g. cancer or renal dysplasia). Working within the Genomics unit of the Department for Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology, he/she will utilise existing data sets (including genome-wide SNP data, whole genome sequences from multiple dog breeds, as well as the coming 200 mammals comparative data set) in combination with packaged and novel in-house developed software pipelines, to pinpoint functionally relevant genomic variants. Extension into functional validation is encouraged.
Required qualifications: The successful candidate will hold a PhD in the research area, and be able to demonstrate expertise in the fields of population scale genetic analyses, genome wide association analyses, as well as large-scale and comparative DNA sequencing analysis. A foundation in statistical genetics is appreciated. To be eligible to apply you must have a Ph.D. completed within three years of the application deadline. If you received your PhD earlier but special circumstances exist you are also eligible to apply. Excellent spoken and written English is required. We are looking for someone with a suitable personality.
