Sort on published: 2017-05-02
Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our mission is to pursue top-quality research and education and to interact constructively with society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has 40,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of SEK 6.5 billion.
The Department of Physics and Astronomy is one of the largest at Uppsala University with more than 350 employees and 10 different divisions and is situated at Ångström Laboratory in Uppsala.
Information about the project: The aim of the project is to strengthen the growth and characterization capacity within the research program (Materials Physics). This is of large relevance for the work on magnetic meta-materials, including artificial spin ice structures, phase transitions in magnetic nano-systems, as well as magneto optical properties of artificial hybrid materials.
The work will be performed at the Division of Materials Physics of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Uppsala University.
Please see http://www.physics.uu.se/research/materials-physics+/ for more information about the research in the Division of Materials Physics.
Major responsibilities : The duties involves the growth and characterisation of thin films and superlattices, using both UHV-sputtering and MBE. The patterning you will use is based on e-beams and includes for example production and characterisation of artificial spin ice structures. The structural characterisation is performed using x-ray scattering as well as synchrotron-based techniques. The magnetic characterisation is performed using MOKE, SQUID and scattering techniques using both synchrotrons and neutron facilities.
Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your line of research in a general setting of a research group. The position might include supervision of Master and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.
Position summary: Production and characterization of magnetic meta-materials. Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).
Qualifications: Experience of growth and characterization of thin films and superlattices, experimental nanomagnetism, clean-room-based nanofabrication, magnetic materials and structural characterization of thin films and patterned structures.
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in a relevant field; the degree should generally not be older than three years. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.
Excellent command of English is a must. If Swedish is not your native language then you are encouraged to learn Swedish during your employment. Uppsala University offers Swedish courses.
The application should be written in English and include:
- Letter of motivation, with a short description of your research interests, and why you feel you are a good match for the project (max two pages, ideally one).
- CV, including a description of relevant skills and experiences, as well as a full publication list.
- Copy of degree diploma, other official transcripts.
- Contact information to a minimum of two (ideally three) individuals, who can provide letters of reference to support your application, with a short description of how these individuals are professionally related to you.
In the event of special circumstances leading to a career break, these should be mentioned in the CV (with dates) so that the assessment of scientific output can take these factors into account. Examples of such special circumstances include a leave of absence due to sickness, parental leave, serving on commissions of trust, military service etc.
Uppsala University aims for gender balance and diversity in all activities in order to achieve a higher quality at all levels of the organization. We therefore welcome applicants of any gender and with different birth background, functionality and life experience.
