PhD Position in Computer Science (Data Management)

The Department of Information Technology (www.it.uu.se) conducts education and research in Computer Science and Information Technology. We cover a wide range of issues, from construction of computer systems, via programming of computers, storage and handling of data, to information retrieval and methods for applying computers in a variety of contexts.
Job and project description: The PhD student will work under the supervision of Dr. Georgios Fakas (www.it.uu.se/katalog/geofa117). Data Management topics of interest include (but not limited to) (1) big data (2) keyword search and ranking on (semi) structure data and (attributed) graphs, (3) web search and (4) online (geo) social networks. The details about the project will be defined based on the student’s knowledge and interests.
The position is for five years, including 20% teaching/institutional duties. Doctoral education also includes participation in courses related to the research subject.
Qualifications: The candidate must have a BSc or MSc degree in computer science or related areas relevant to the PhD topics. If you are close to the completion of your MSc you are still welcome to apply. Good programming and algorithmic skills are required. Expertise in data engineering and data mining is meriting. Good communication skills in English, both spoken and written, are required.
