Sort on published: 2017-08-14
Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our mission is to pursue top-quality research and education and to interact constructively with society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has 40,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of SEK 6.5 billion.
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Uppsala University invites applications for a postdoctoral position in stellar astrophysics, to work within in the project “The New Milky Way” funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to work within a subproject aimed at developing high-precision stellar spectrum analysis techniques, with emphasis on the physics of stellar atmospheres. The subproject focusses on making advances regarding atomic data and processes, non-LTE- and 3D- modelling relevant to solar-type (F, G, K) stellar atmospheres and their spectra. Problems at the interface between stellar spectroscopy and atomic physics, and their applications to radiative transfer modelling, are of particular interest. Applicants with backgrounds in stellar physics, stellar spectroscopy, atomic and molecular (astro)physics, and/or quantum chemistry, are encouraged to apply.
The position includes adequate funding for computers and travel. The successful applicant will also have the possibility to access SNIC (Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing), as well as a range of observational facilities such as the NOT(Nordic Optical Telescope) and ESO (European Southern Observatory).
Prerequisites: The holder of a position as postdoctoral researcher must have a PhD degree or equivalent. The PhD degree must have been obtained at the start of the employment and no more than three years prior to the application deadline; however, periods of e.g. sick leave or parental leave are not counted.
Employment Period: The period of employment is 2 years.
The application should contain a letter describing the applicant and her/his qualifications and research interests. It should contain a CV, copies of relevant degrees, contact information for at least two reference persons, and a full publication list. Personal circumstances that may be of relevance in the evaluation, for example periods of parental leave, should be mentioned in the CV.
