Uppsala University hereby declares one position in the philosophy program within specialization in the history of philosophy open for applications. Candidates with diverse backgrounds in history of philosophy are welcomed. Besides eligibility and quality, one assessment criterion will be the fit of the proposed research with research already done at the department. The historical periods studied are especially ancient and medieval philosophy (with some emphasis on Plato and later forms of Platonism). Thematically research revolves around the following broad areas: soul and its activities, moral psychology and ethics, action and agency, self and self-knowledge, dialectic and argumentation, epistemology and theories of rationality, and metaphysics. The successful candidates will be employed by the department as PhD candidates (“doktorandanställning”) for 4 years full-time, and as employees they will be eligible for Swedish social benefits, such as paid parental leave. The starting salary is currently 25 600 SEK/month. Doctoral students are expected to engage in their studies full-time, and to participate in the activities of the department. The position might also entail teaching and other assignments, amounting to no more than 20% of full-time employment. The position is available from February 1 2018 (or according to agreement).
Please note that admission for the PhD at Uppsala University is highly competitive and that a Master Degree in the Humanities or Sciences or equivalent at the time of application is a prerequisite for a successful application.
