Type of position: Fixed-term appointment from 01/01/2018 to 31/12/2018, with the possibility of extension.
Duties: Teaching, supervision and examination in the subject of English within the teacher training programmes. In addition to duties within the teacher training programmes, the position may include further teaching in English at undergraduate level. Teaching duties comprise course coordination, administration and development. Responsibilities also include conducting visits to teacher-training students on work placement, as well as following developments in the subject area and in society that are of relevance to university employment. The position includes a 10% allocation for research.
Eligibility: To be eligible for appointment as an assistant lecturer, a university-level degree with a specialization in English, or equivalent, is required. The appointee will also have completed training in the Pedagogy in Higher Education, or have acquired equivalent pedagogical skills through other means, as well as have the teaching skills and other qualities required to fulfil the requirements of the position well. Teaching skills include the planning, delivery and evaluation of teaching as well as the ability to supervise and examine students. Teaching abilities should be documented so that the quality of the teaching can be assessed. An ability to teach and correct the students’ texts through the medium of English is a requirement, and the appointee will have experience of teaching English as a second language.
Assessment criteria: In the ranking of eligible applicants, special weight will be accorded to applicants who have completed a teacher-training programme. Assessment of teaching competence will be given particular weight and should include documented excellence in teaching, formal qualifications in education, as well as experience of planning, implementation and assessment of teaching in English. Well-documented excellence in the pedagogy and methodology of teaching English is an advantage, as is experience of teaching at a Swedish primary or upper-secondary school. The applicant should have good Swedish. Good interpersonal skills and a documented ability to cooperate with colleagues is particularly important.
