The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University (http://www.igp.uu.se) has a broad research profile with several strong research groups focused on Genomics, Cancer and Molecular Diagnostics. Research is presently conducted in the following areas: Medical and Clinical Genetics, Immunology, Pathology, Tumor Biology and Vascular Biology. Parts of the organization are also integrated with the departments for Clinical Genetics, Immunology and Pathology-Cythology at Akademiska sjukhuset, Uppsala. The department provides a well-developed infrastructure for advanced molecular sciences, including access to front-line technology as well as core facilities for cell analyses, DNA sequencing and genotyping. The Department has a yearly turnover of around 340 million SEK with a staff of around 340 people, 120 of which are PhD-students.
Work description: We are seeking a postdoc for experimental laboratory work in a cross-disciplinary team focused on childhood brain tumor biology and studies of cancer recurrences and future treatment options. The role involves: (1) Identifying the mechanism of the transcription factor SOX9 in brain tumor dormancy and recurrence. (2) Evaluating effective radiosensitizers, drugs that collaborate with radiation in targeting brain cancer cells. The project involves advanced laboratory techniques including stem cell culturing, cell sorting, immunostainings, confocal microscopy, gene cloning and editing, in vivo models, treatment studies and drug screening. The project aims at improving targeted therapies against childhood brain cancer. Finally, some of the work in the position involves administration and teaching at the department.
- Doctoral degree in a relevant area (e.g. biomedicine, pharmacy or medicine) completed less than three years before the application deadline.
- Documented advanced experience of molecular biological experimental work, including gene perturbations, in vivo modeling and cell based assays.
- Documented experience of working in cross-disciplinary teams that bridge molecular biology or experimental research with translational/clinical research and bioinformatics.
- Deep knowledge in cell and cancer biology, genetics, neuroscience or drug screening.
- Advanced experience of cancer stem cell models or pediatric cancer research.
- Advanced experience of radiation therapy or high-throughput studies, e.g. drug screening.
