The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 70 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph. D. program.
The department of peace and conflict research is now hiring a full-time research assistant for the period 180301-190228.
Work assignments
The research assistant will work both within the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP, www.ucdp.uu.se ) and the project “Ending Atrocities” (project leader Lisa Hultman).
Assignments within the UCDP will be to collect and code information on organized violence, as well as to update texts in the program’s online encyclopedia.
Within the project "Ending Atrocities", the assistant will provide support to the research team through, above all, compilation of data and design of data sets with different units of analysis; initial analysis of collected information; editing and formatting book and article manuscript; practical preparations for and during arrangements of international workshop.
Qualifications
Master degree in peace- and conflict research or other master degree that the project leaders find equal. Good knowledge of statistics and statistical software, literature and data on peacekeeping missions. Proficiency in English, both wtitten and spoken.
Merit
Good knowledge of UCDP and its definitions as well as experiences of similar work. Ability to cooperate and work in a group as well as work independently.
