Post-doc in synthesis of electrode binders for Li-ion battery electrodes
Sort on published: 2018-01-12
Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our mission is to pursue top-quality research and education and to interact constructively with society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has 42,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of SEK 6.7 billion.
Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory conducts research and education in chemistry. The Department has over 300 active persons, of which 200 are employees and the rest consists of guest researchers and students doing research at Master level. Annual turnover is just over 200 million SEK. For more information, visit the Chemistry Ångström's website.
The Department of Chemistry – Ångström Laboratory has for many years hosted a research environment focused on the development of materials and their applications within the energy storage area: the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre. We develop novel electrode and electrolyte materials, characterize them, evaluate and improve them with respect to battery performance, and study fundamental chemical processes and properties using both experimental and computational techniques. The research is, as such, both fundamental and applied.
Duties: The primary focus of the research project will be the synthesis and characterization of novel binder systems for Li-ion battery electrodes, comprising composites of silicon and graphite. The research will also involve electrode preparation (lab-scale and pilot-scale), including rheological studies. The binders will be used in prototype battery cells, which will be electrochemically characterized.
Requirements: The applicant should have a PhD in Chemistry, where polymer synthesis has constituted a major part of the studies. Competences regarding rheology and electrochemistry are also useful. A background within the battery research area is highly appreciated.
For employment as postdoc, the applicant should have a PhD exam or an international equivalent within a maximum of three years before the final application date. During certain circumstances, an earlier PhD can be acceptable.
Additional qualifications: The candidate must have excellent capabilities in written and oral English.
Uppsala University strives to be an inclusive workplace that promotes equal opportunities and attracts qualified candidates who can contribute to the University’s excellence and diversity. We welcome applications from all sections of the community and from people of all backgrounds.
