Sort on published: 2018-02-06
Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our mission is to pursue top-quality research and education and to interact constructively with society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has 42,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of SEK 6.7 billion.
The Department of Earth Sciences is one of the most complete such academic departments in Europe.
Our research focuses on subjects that range from the Earth’s core to the atmosphere, on scales from submicroscopic structures in minerals to the formation of mountains and oceans. We have teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels. Our courses offer a wide range within the geoscience area and several of the department's programs have received the highest rating in evaluations by the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education (Högskoleverket) and the Swedish Higher Education Authority (Universitetskanslersämbetet). For more information see www.geo.uu.se.
The Programme for Air, Water, and Landscape Science encompasses education and research in meteorology, hydrology, environmental analysis, and physical geography. More information on the programme for air-water and landscape science can be found at www.geo.uu.se/research/luval/.
The successful candidate will join the research program Air, Water and Landscape Sciences, at the Department of Earth Sciences, Uppsala University, Sweden. In addition, the position has connections to other closely related programs, such as Geophysics and Mineralogy, petrology and tectonics.
Description of Subject Area: The position has a focus in hydrogeology coupled to other processes such as seismicity (induced by fluid injection), rock mechanical, and thermal phenomena at small and large scales, including interactions with shallow ground layers.
Duties: The position includes teaching, research and administration. Teaching duties include course responsibility, course administration and supervision of second- and third-cycle students. The holder shall also keep abreast of developments within the subject area and the developments in wider community that are significant for the work at the university. A position as associate senior lecturer is intended to qualify the holder for a teaching position with higher qualification requirements.

If the associate senior lecturer is deemed suitable and fulfills the criteria for promotion established by the Faculty Board he/she shall be promoted to a permanent position as senior lecturer.
Qualifications Required:According to the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance those qualified for appointment as associate senior lecturer are persons who have obtained a doctoral degree or achieved the equivalent competence. Applicants who have obtained a doctoral degree or achieved the equivalent competence in seven years or less prior to the end of the application period will be given priority.
According to Uppsala University´s appointments regulations, teaching expertise is an eligibility requirement for appointment as an associate senior lecturer. To obtain teaching expertise, the applicant should have participated in teacher training for higher education of relevance to operations at the University, comprising at least five weeks, or be considered to have acquired the equivalent competence. If it has not been possible to acquire this qualification prior to employment, qualifying training for teachers in higher education shall be completed during the first two years of employment.
The successful candidate must have a PhD or equivalent degree in relevant Earth Sciences discipline such as geohydrology, geophysics or rock mechanics, or in petroleum or water resources engineering or related field.
A general eligibility requirement is that the applicant must possess the personal capabilities necessary to carry out fully the duties of the appointment.
Documented ability to teach in Swedish or English is a requirement unless special reasons prevail. The holder is expected to be able to teach in Swedish within two years.
Research Expertise and Teaching Expertise: The ranking of eligible applicants will be based on research and teaching expertise, of which weight will be primarily given to research expertise. Research expertise comprises research merits as well as the applicant´s potential to contribute to the future development of both research and teaching. In assessing research expertise, special weight will be attached to research merits and demonstrated experience in geohydrology in the context of coupled processes, including modeling and model development of them.
Experience in experimental studies, in field and laboratory measurement techniques and interpretation of measurement data is also a merit.
Candidates need not only to have interest in related applications to important energy or climatic related problems facing the society today, but also a long-term vision in the development of the scientific field of coupling deep hydrogeology to related geoscientific disciplines.
Teaching expertise comprises educational and teaching qualifications. In assessing teaching expertise teaching quality must be the prime consideration. The scope of teaching experience, in terms of both breadth and depth, must also be afforded consideration. Special consideration will be put on teaching experience in the areas of geohydrology, rock/soil mechanics and/or hydrogeophysics.
