Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our mission is to pursue top-quality research and education and to interact constructively with society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has 42,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of SEK 6.7 billion.
At the Division of Solid State Electronics, Department of Engineering Sciences, The Angstrom Laboratory.
Full-time position for one year starting as soon as possible. The position is extendable for a second year.
The research at the Division of Solid State Electronics is focused in two main areas: Electronics for Sustainable Energy and Electronics for Smart Healthcare. Specific research fields include solar cells, flexible electronics, sensors, energy-efficient RF-devices, biomedical microwave technology and thin film technologies.
Work description: Sputtering and characterization of different combinations of metal sulphide materials. The purpose of the project is to grow materials in layered stacks and combine different materials within these stacks, aiming at synthesizing novel two-dimensional (2D) materials with an inherently scalable process such as sputtering. The materials will primarily be WS2, MoS2, and SnS2. The quality and properties of the sputter deposited films will be characterized at the Ångström Laboratory and at project partners in Berlin (HZB) and Paris (UPMC). The successful candidate will be working in a research group active in thin film growth and characterization of graphene and layered 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (2D-TMD). The research is inter-disciplinary and involves physics, surface chemistry, and material science. The characterization methods at the Ångström Laboratory will include X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy (XPS). More advanced characterization techniques will also be employed at synchrotron facilities.
Qualifications required: PhD in materials physics, chemistry or materials science. Previous experience in sputter deposition and XRD is required. Good oral and written proficiency in English is required.
Previous experience of work in cleanroom laboratories, and/or at synchrotron facilities, and/or proficiency in other relevant materials characterization techniques is advantageous.
The application should include:
- Cover letter with a brief description of previous research, research interests, and qualifications.
- CV and list of publications.
- Copy of doctoral thesis.
- Copy of degree diplomas, other official academic transcripts.
- Names of two reference persons, along with their contact details.
