Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our mission is to pursue top-quality research and education and to interact constructively with society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has 42,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of SEK 6.7 billion.
The research of the Uppsala hadron physics group is carried out within international collaborations and facilities, among others in the PANDA experiment at the future Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR), Darmstadt, Germany. The group is involved in the development and production of the electromagnetic calorimeter (EMC) for PANDA detector which comprises over 15,000 PbWO4 Crystals for detecting and determining the energy of particles. All signals from EMC needs a continuous sampling with an autonomous pulse detection and parameterization.
For this purpose, our group has developed a compact 80 MSPS sampling ADC (SADC) with 64 channels and 14-bit dynamic range. 250 modules currently in production. In parallel, an automatic test unit for the SADC is in preparation. The main tasks of the applicant will be programming of the test unit based on an Atmel microcontroller, programming of a ZYNQ-based readout systems and quality control of SADC produced using this test system.
Information about Uppsala's involvement in the PANDA experiments can be obtained via http://www.physics.uu.se/research/nuclear-physics/research-projects/panda/pagaende-aktiviteter/.
