A postdoc position in solid state physics – permanent magnets without content of rare earth elements
Sort on published: 2018-04-23
Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our mission is to pursue top-quality research and education and to interact constructively with society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has 42,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of SEK 6.7 billion.
At the Division of Solid state physics (http://teknik.uu.se/solid-state-physics+/?languageId=3), Department of Engineering Sciences, Ångström Laboratory.
Temporary employment at full time (100%) for two years. Starting date as soon as possible.
At the division of solid state physics we do both basic and applied research. In general we investigate physical and chemical properties of nanomaterials and compounds whether it will be used as thin films for spintronic applications, magnetic nanoparticle based bioassays, coatings for smart windows, gas sensors, photocatalytic coatings or to create new magnetic materials for environmentally friendly energy technology. We also do energy system studies to investigate the impact different energy sources have on the whole energy system in the built environment.
The project focuses on permanent magnetic powder materials without content of rare earth elements and involves Höganäs AB, a world leading company within metal powder technology, as industrial partner. An important objective is decrease the powder particle size to a level where one particle corresponds to a single domain magnetic grain or to an assembly of grains with aligned magnetic anisotropy axes. The latter will require in-depth studies of powder microstructure combined with magnetic microstructure studies and magnetic domain imaging using different techniques. We offer a varied and exciting work, with well-established collaboration with the departments of Chemistry Ångström and Physics and Astronomy at Uppsala University as well as with nationally and internationally recognized research groups.
Qualifications: To qualify for employment on a post-doctoral position at Uppsala University, the applicant must hold a PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree. The PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. The three year period can be extended on circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in trade unions, etc.
We are seeking candidates with a PhD degree involving permanent magnet materials. A strong motivation and ability to work independently is desirable, and good verbal and written skills in English are required. Experience in using experimental techniques for magnetic domain imaging will be considered as a merit.
Applications should include a CV, list of publications and copies of diplomas and certificates. The candidates are encouraged to provide letter(s) of recommendation and contact information to at least two reference persons
Uppsala University strives to be an inclusive workplace that promotes equal opportunities and attracts qualified candidates who can contribute to the University’s excellence and diversity. We welcome applications from all sections of the community and from people of all backgrounds.
