The Department of Surgical Sciences is a part of the Medical Faculty at Uppsala University. The department has just over 110 employees and about 170 registered and linked PhD-students. In addition there are several hundred associates, mainly clinically active doctors and nurses at Akademiska Sjukhuset and other hospitals. The department conducts research, postgraduate education and teaching. The research is both clinical and preclinical and brings together research groups from several surgical specialties and related areas. The teaching assignment covers several different programs and independent courses. The largest educational contribution is made within the medical programme, the specialist nursing programme and the radiography programme.
The Department of Surgical Sciences collaborates with Regional Cancer Centre Uppsala Örebro on clinical prostate cancer research by use of clinical cancer registers (see www.npcr.se). We are now looking for a research assistant to join us for one year.
As a part of our dedicated team your main task will be clinical prostate cancer research. By use of data in several large databases you will study pattern of care, rare adverse effects of cancer treatment and outcomes.
You have an MD and you should be interested in prostate cancer epidemiology and be able to plan and execute clinical cancer studies by use of register data. You are proficient in spoken and written Swedish and English and have good communication skills.
Expertise in clinical prostate cancer diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up is a merit as well as proficiency in basic epidemiology, statistics and proficiency in use of ’R’ and some experience of writing clinical cancer research papers.
