Language courses

If you are going to stay in Sweden for several months, you probably want to know some Swedish in order to read newspapers, watch television, and communicate with people. If you learn some Swedish, you will probably adjust more easily to the new culture.

The Department of Scandinavian Languages offers courses in Swedish: Swedish for Academics 1, 2, 3 and 4. The courses are designed to give employees basic skills in the Swedish language and knowledge of Swedish culture and Swedish society. The courses will provide a basis for further studies in the Swedish language. The courses equal 7.5 credits and are free of charge. Application is only open during a certain period before each semester, and applicants are admitted on a first come, first served basis.

You can also learn Swedish as a foreign language. To study Swedish for immigrants SFI in Uppsala, it is required that you have an address in Uppsala and that you have a valid work- or residence permit. In Uppsala, it is not required to have a Personal Identity Number to study SFI.
