Uppsala University organises a range of activities for our international guests. Below, you can read about the programme that has been planned for the autumn 2017.

Mushroom picking in the footsteps of linné

Vallhov Säteri

Welcome to our mushroom picking along one of Linnés pathways at Jumkil, north of Uppsala. We inform you about familiar and edible Swedish mushrooms and with a little luck we may find some.

Bring a light lunch picnic. We continue our excursion with an interesting visit to LINNÉS KAMMARE at 14.00; an art studio and boutique of Arts and Crafts. We end this visit by enjoying a coffee and cake at the cafeteria in the barn.


Number 844 runs every half hour from the city. If you prefer to drive there is free parking available.

On Thursday 12 October you are welcome to an information seminar about social security in Sweden.

Representatives from the Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan) will address questions such as:

  • How does the social security system in Sweden work?
  • What is parental benefit?
  • Who is entitled to parental benefit?
  • How to apply for parental benefit?
  • What is temporary parental benefit (VAB)?
  • How to receive compensation for the care of a child?
  • What is sickness benefit?
  • Who is entitled to sickness benefit?
  • How to apply for sickness benefit?

There is a maximum of 30 participants for this meeting. Sandwich and beverage will be available.

Please register no later than 5 October and remember to state if you would like a vegetarian sandwich or if you have any food allergies.

Candle light walk at håga eco village

Welcome to participate in a fascinating candle forest walk celebrating community life and alternative ways of living at Håga. Situated in a national park this friendly village invites people to come to know more of and to enjoy their eco way of living. Information, coffee, music entertainment and walk, all free of charge.

Lucia celebration

Don’t miss our annual Lucia Celebration at Vaksala school (located in the city, near the Central Station or UKK ). Lucia and her maids will sing traditional Lucia and Christmas songs and Santa Claus will hand out gifts to the children. There will also be folk dancing and other merriments. Coffee, Christmas lemonade and cakes will be served. Join in and have fun! All free of charge.

The Unit for Professional English (UPE) is a unit within the Department of English at Uppsala University dedicated to helping university employees develop their English-language competence. The UPE will be offering four courses this autumn. For more information on these courses, please see the UPE website:
