Learning outcomes

The aim of the degree project is to prepare the student to work as an engineer with a scientific and engineering approach and methodology.

On completion of the course, students should be able to:

  • independently identify and formulate technical problems within the field of the programme
  • independently carry out an assignment within given time frames employing scientific and engineering approaches and methodologies
  • search, use, evaluate and critically interpret relevant scientific literature
  • demonstrate advanced knowledge in a specific sub-area within the field of the programme
  • present and discuss the results in a clear and correct language both orally and in writing to different target groups
  • provide oral and written constructive criticism on others' reports.

Content

In the degree project, the student must apply knowledge that has been acquired during the course of study by independently processing and reporting on an assignment within the planned time. The task must be relevant to the engineering program from which the student is to be graduated from and be so chosen that knowledge from previous advanced level courses within the program can be applied, but also broadened and deepened by the student being able to seek and assimilate new knowledge necessary to carry out the task. In terms of scope, the task must be adapted to be able to be solved and reported within the given time frame.

The degree project must involve contacts within business, organization or government agency.

Instruction

Supervision.

Assessment

Oral and written presentation of the degree project (see Other Directives). Oral and written opposition of another degree project (normally within the same programme).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding targeted pedagogical support from the university's disability coordinator.

Other directives

Guidelines for the degree project are available at www.uu.se/teknatstudent.
