Entry requirements

120 credits including Power Systems. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course the student shall be able to:

  • perform calculations on unbalanced systems,
  • describe and analyse the distribution grid structure, standards and power quality,
  • perform system analysis of a distribution network with various specific software such as Matpower, openDSS or PSS/E,
  • describe and discuss statistical methods to construct load profiles, load forecasting and reliability.

Content

Unbalanced loads, distribution systems and important aspects such as load forecast, relay coordination, selectivity, standards, power quality, voltage stabilisation as well as integration of local renewable energy sources. System analysis of a distribution network with various programs such as Matpower, openDSS or PSS /E.

Instruction

Lectures, computer laboratory work and supervision of project work.

Assessment

Written presentation of project work (3 credits). Computer laboratory work (2 credits).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
