General provisions
The course is given within the Master's Programme in Social Sciences. The course may be given in English.
Entry requirements
A Bachelor's degree of 180 credits including 90 credits in social sciences.
Learning outcomes
After the course the student should:
• have enhanced her/his capacity to formulate and analyse problems using theories of social psychology
• have a deeper knowledge of the theories of social psychology
• have developed the capacity for critical reflection on the development of theories of social psychology
• have gained a deeper knowledge and understanding of the role played by society in creating your identity
Content
The aim of the course is that the student should develop in-depth knowledge of social psychology theories and the ability to formulate and analyse problems using theories of social psychology proficiently. The course deals with different perspectives used in social psychology. These perspectives are set against each other to be analysed and tested in theory. Their practical applicability is also is also tested against the new constellations of the small group which modern society has given rise to. With this starting point the needs of contemporary society for perspectives of theories of social psychology are studied as well as the impact of society on individual human identity.
Instruction
The course consists of lectures, group work and seminars. Participation in seminars is always compulsory. Other compulsory attendance is indicated on the course syllabus.
Assessment
Assessment is by home assignments and seminars. Home assignments which are submitted after the deadline cannot be given the grade VG, unless there are special circumstances.
