About the course:

Games are becoming a pervasive medium - from the social games on your phone to actual pervasive games played in the real world. This course delves into the mechanics, business models and engagement techniques of both types of game before having you make a fully functioning pervasive game.

The Games Industry is far reaching, covering real world, mobile, and, social network games all the way up to PC and Console games. This course looks at the kinds of games that are always on, and examines how they work. It covers how these games change the notion of time, space and boundary, before covering the mechanics and set up of social games: from core gameplay loops, to return triggers and monetising techniques. It then switches focus and looks at pervasive games and the tools used to create these types of games. Finally, students build a pervasive game, for deployment in a real world setting.

This course builds on, and extends the design frameworks MDA and AARRR, and features a gamified assignment system.
