Aims

The Master's Programme in Business and Management is a two-year education at advanced level. After completing the programme, all students should have obtained knowledge and skills that make them well suited for tasks focused on the management of business operations. In addition, each student will have gained specific expertise in one of the three specialisations offered within the programme. By having a research connection the aim of the programme is also to offer the student good opportunities for in-depth studies of the subject and specialisation in the fields of business studies, and also prepare the student for PhD studies in business studies.

Layout of the programme

All students in the Master Programme take courses of 120 credits (including a thesis of 30 credits). The students take courses of 52.5 credits (including a thesis of 30 credits) within the chosen specialisation and courses that are common for all students (37.5 credits). In addition, students have an optional semester of 30 credits. The common courses are relevant to the progression of the programme as a whole, but also to the specialisations, as parts of the content of the courses are common, while other parts are focused on the three individual specialisations.

During the first and second semester the students take courses that are mandatory and common for all students as well as courses specific for the chosen specialisation. During the third optional semester, students have the opportunity to study abroad, do a one-semester internship or take elective courses. The final, fourth semester is devoted to thesis work, and to seminars in connection to this.

The programme follows a fixed syllabus, which means that the courses and semesters are to be studied in a set order.

Instruction

Progression within the Programme

During the programme, the student will obtain advanced knowledge in International Business, Marketing or Organisation that complements the knowledge obtained at the Bachelor level. The student should also gradually acquire in-depth knowledge and obtain more advanced skills and training within the chosen specialisation. The knowledge will be acquired through independent studies, seminars and lectures, various forms of group assignments, as well as through individual work.

During the programme, the student should acquire the ability to analyse, plan, execute, and report scientific work. The student's ability to analyse and apply theoretical knowledge in practice should continuously be developed. Increased autonomy will be obtained since the students during the education will take a greater responsibility for their own learning. Training in collaboration as well as oral and written communication will be gradually deepened. The student will gain an advanced understanding of seminar- and meeting culture. National as well as international contacts will be encouraged. Various forms of examination will be used throughout the programme. In the final thesis project, the student will demonstrate that he/she has achieved the aim of integrating more advanced knowledge in an independent and reflective way.
