How do geophysicists derive models of the Earths interior from a finite number of error prone observations on the Earths surface? And how do they assess the quality of such models? In this course students will get a broad overview of the underlying theory and practical algorithms for solving such inverse problems. Having followed this course the student should be well prepared to understand the numerous research papers describing applications in various geophysical disciplines, and self be able to design and solve geophysical inverse problems
