Fredrik Palm to receive the Swedish Eric K. Fernström Prize

On 8 November, Fredrik Palm will receive one of the Eric K. Fernström Prizes to young, particularly promising and successful researchers in Sweden for 2017. He is receiving the prize for his pioneering and ground-breaking research about how hypoxia arises as a central mechanism in the development of diabetes damage to the kidneys and the demonstration of possible treatment routes for mitigating its effects.

The prize committee at the faculties of medicine and pharmacy at Uppsala University decided to award this year’s Swedish Eric K. Fernström Prize to Fredrik Palm, Professor and Research Group Leader at the Department of Medical Cell Biology.

The prize is awarded to young, particularly promising and successful researchers under the age of 45 who are active at a Swedish faculty of medicine. The faculties in Umeå, Uppsala, Stockholm, Linköping, Gothenburg and Lund each name one prize winner. The prize amount is SEK 100,000 and may not be shared. The prize will be awarded at the Development Research Day in Lund on 8 November.
