Master Programmes

Uppsala University offers a substantial selection of master programmes taught in English. They are normally open to both foreign and Swedish students with a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent degree and proficiency in English. The total length of the master programmes is from one to two years.

The application period will begin and the online application will open December 1st, 2009.

Master Programmes Taught in English, the academic year 2010/2011*:

Requirements
General requirements for admission to the programmes include earlier studies with a degree at least up to a level corresponding to three years of study at a Swedish university, i.e. approximately equivalent to a bachelor’s degree at a British university. In addition, most master programmes have specific requirements which can vary from one programme to another.

All applicants also need to verify English language proficiency at a level corresponding to English B in the Swedish secondary school. This is normally attested by means of an internationally recognised test such as TOEFL or IELTS. Read more about the requirements.

December 1st, 2009
The application period will begin and the online application will open at the National Admissions site, www.studera.nu.

January 15th, 2010
Last date for applying for the 2010/2011 academic year. No late applications will be considered.

February 1st, 2010
Last date for submitting documents to University Studies in Sweden.

May, 2010
Final notification of the selection result can be seen on "Your pages" of studera.nu.

Degrees Awarded

General degrees at advanced level (according to the degree ordinance valid from July 1st 2007) is: Degree of Master (One Year), 60 credits and Degree of Master (Two Years), 120 credits.

Credit System and the Academic Year

1,5 Swedish higher education credits is one week of full-time studies and a semester consists of 20 weeks, i.e. 30 credits. Thus one year of full time studies equals 60 credits.

The academic year is divided into two semesters. The Autumn semester 2010 starts officially on August 30 and ends on January 16. The Spring semester 2011 starts on January 17 and ends on June 5.
