The 17th Nordic Environmental Social Science (NESS) Conference is hosted by Uppsala University in Sweden, 9-11 June 2026.
The conference brings together scholars across research fields for meeting and discussing interdisciplinary knowledge co-production and co-creation for sustainability. The NESS conference has a long history of over 30 years of biennial gatherings of researchers within the broad field of social science and humanities approaches to environmental studies among the Nordic countries and beyond.

Public activities at NESS
We welcome everyone - students, business/organisation representatives and Uppsala residents - to three free public events surrounding the NESS conference. Come and take part in research advances and solutions for the climate transition.

- October 2025: Scientific Committee decision on submitted workshop proposals
- 24 October - 8 December 2025: Submission of abstracts.
- January 2026: Selection of abstracts by workshop convenors
- 27 February 2026: Last day for early bird registration for the conference
- 27 April 2026: Last day to register for the conference
- 15 May 2026: Deadline for submission of full papers via email to workshop convenors
- 8 June 2026: Organised trips and pre-conference events
