Gland: Seminar, "The State of the Ocean"

The Swedish Swiss Chamber of Commerce (SSCC) in collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Uppsala University Switzerland Alumni Chapter (UUSAC) have the pleasure of inviting you to an evening to better understand and discuss the current state of the ocean. The many alarming reports have been increasingly frequent, from plastic pollution to death of coral reef

Carl Gustaf Lundin, Principal Marine and Polar Scientist, from IUCN, will give us an update of what is currently happening and what we can do to improve the situation. Approaches to cleaning up the existing plastic pollution and turning off the plastic tap will be discussed. The use of conservation tools like marine protected areas, and a few examples of how they have been applied will also be presented.

Carl Gustaf Lundin will also share his impressions and highlights from his most recent expeditions in Indonesia and Spitsbergen. This is also a great opportunity to visit IUCN's headquarters, one of Europe's greenest office buildings. This state-of-the art complex sets a benchmark in sustainable construction and incorporates a series of innovative green building techniques while operating within tight cost constraints.
