Collaborations and partnerships
Uppsala University collaborates in various forms with the surrounding community regionally, nationally, and internationally. Collaboration takes place in both education and research, through participation in networks, partnerships and various forms of collaboration.
Our strategic partnerships
With the ambition to contribute to societal benefit and innovation while strengthening the university's research and education, Uppsala University has agreements for strategic partnerships with a number of companies and organisations.
International collaborations
Uppsala university aims to strengthen its position as a leading international research university. International collaboration is a means and a strategy for achieving higher quality research and education.
National competence centres
Uppsala University leads a number of national competence centres where we conduct research in areas that are important to Sweden’s competitiveness, for instance batteries, solar power and nuclear technology.
Uppsala University Hospital
In cooperation with Uppsala University Hospital we train more than 3,000 physicians, nurses and other medical staff a year. We conduct world-leading research to create new treatments and solve the puzzles of serious diseases.
Uppsala Health Summit
Uppsala Health Summit is a recurring international policy meeting on the challenges of healthcare in the world, and how we can overcome them. The goal is to enable research and development results to reach healthcare and patients sooner.

Initiative for newcomers and integration
Uppsala University has essential knowledge in a number of areas related to migration. We offer opportunities for continuing professional development for newcomers and collaborate closely with different actors in society.
Intentionsavtal med forskningsinstituten RISE
RISE
Uppsala universitet har tecknat ett intentionsavtal med forskningsinstituten RISE – Research Institutes of Sweden – ett nätverk för svenska forskningsinstitut.
Syftet är att stärka Uppsala universitets och RISE position nationellt och internationellt inom gemensamma forskningsområden, samt bidra till att knyta utbildningen närmare tillämpad forskning och innovationssystem.
Exempel på samverkan är driva gemensamma forskningsprojekt och seminarier, samarbeta om rekrytering och handledning av doktorander, delta i kurser och utbildningar samt samfinansiera dyrbar utrustning.
Områden med goda förutsättningar för fördjupad samverkan:
Avancerade faciliteter för teknologiutveckling, produktion och testning (t.ex FREIA, Ångströmverkstad, UppTech)
Det digitala samhället/Internet of Things (IoT)
Energi med KIC InnoEnergy

Other international collaborations
Innovation programmes
The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is part of EU’s Horizon 2020 which focuses on entrepreneurship and innovation in different areas. Uppsala University is an active participant in three of EIT’s six knowledge and innovation communities:
- EIT InnoEnergy (since 2010)
- EIT Raw Materials (since 2015)
- EIT Culture and Creativity (since 2022)
The cooperation in these innovation communities happens both at the national and European level with other higher education institutions and industry. Uppsala University contributes to these communities through courses, innovation projects and business-furthering activities.
Another strategic innovation programme where Uppsala University is both a participant and coordinator is Internet of Things Sweden.
