In August, CMH hosts a workshop exploring the role of patients in modern society. Using the concept of "trading zones," we analyze how patients engage with medical systems and broader societal forces. This call for papers invite proposals from all disciplines within the medical humanities.

Keynote speakers: Professor Steven Epstein (Northwestern University), Professor Flurin Condrau (University of Zurich)

This workshop explores the evolving role of the patient in late modernity, focusing on how patients have been conceptualized across historical, technological, and social contexts. Drawing on interdisciplinary approaches, we examine patienthood as a dynamic and multifaceted identity shaped by various actors and forces. Through the lens of "trading zones," we aim to understand how patients have engaged with medical systems, technologies, and societal structures, and how this shapes contemporary healthcare.
