Dog day at the Centre on Friday

On Friday April 27 the Humanimal Group at the Centre arranges its second dog day, discussing the role of dogs in society. The dog day is open for all interested.

(Bild borttagen) The Humanimal Group, Uppsala University invites you to a roundtable discussion on the role of dogs in contemporary society. Dogs are present in a range of spaces, and in a variety of contexts. They are beloved pets, troublemakers, and tricksters. These liminal positions facilitate discussions on the wider dynamics of race, class, gender, and sexuality that operate as we rhetorically and practically negotiate our definitions of ’humanity’ personhood, space,
and ’culture’.

This roundtable will cover topics as diverse as welfare, ’dangerous dogs’, hoarding, and grief as it looks to discuss the conflicts, cultures, and companions which emerge when dogs meet other animals, be they people, other pets, or parasites.

Short presentations by Tora Holmberg (Uppsala University), Harlan Weaver (UC Santa Cruz), Ane Gabrielson (NTNU), David Redmalm (Örebro University), Jacob Bull (Uppsala University).

Time: 14.00-18.00
Place: The lunch room at the Center for Gender Research (see http://www.gender.uu.se/contact/ for maps and directions).

Everyone welcome!
