Implementation of bubble CPAP for treating severe pneumonia with hypoxemia in children 1-59 months in Ethiopia

Pneumonia claims the lives of 502, 000 children <5 years old globally in 2021. Most of them occur LMIC where access to oxygen is limited
Hypoxemia, Hypoxemia, which is a low oxygen saturation in arterial blood (Sp02 <90%), is very common and a major predictor of Pneumonia mortality in children with severe Pneumonia
A low cost bCPAP (see figure below.) is showed reduced risk of recrement failure and mortality in Bangladesh and in Ethiopia.
However, the bCPAP implementation in the absence of physician supervision and within certain patient populations resulted in an increased risk of mortality in Malawi13, and several contextual factors are found to contribute to the success of bCPAP
The aim of this study is to assess the implementation and effectiveness of bCPAP in treating children with severe pneumonia with hypoxemia in general hospitals in Ethiopia.
