Titel: Community detection via star modularity

Abstract: Modularity is a graph parameter introduced by Newman and Girvan in 2004. It measures the presence of community structure in graphs and is widely used in clustering applications. However, it exhibits several limitations; in particular it suffers from the resolution limit (i.e., the inability to detect small communities) and assigns very high values to certain sparse graphs.

To address these issues, we introduce star modularity, a modification of the classical parameter. We show how star modularity behaves on several families of graphs in comparison with the traditional metric.
