The role of the psy-disciplines in society

The psy-disciplines - psychology, psychiatry and psychotherapy - have an increasingly prominent role in society. Researchers at CMH have organized an interdisciplinary workshop to discuss collaboration opportunities concerning research and teaching on this theme.

On September 19-20, researchers at CMH organized a workshop titled The role of the Psy-disciplines in society, then and now. The aim was to bring together researchers from different disciplines with an interest in psychology and psychiatry and psychoterapy to discuss possible collaborations around research and teaching.

The discussions were lively and focused particularly on subjective illness experiences and narrative perspectives on mental illness. The participants also discussed the concepts of illness and health and the boundaries between healthy and ill. Another important theme was the psychological tests that have historically received little attention.

The workshop also highlighted the limited teaching of the history of psychology within Swedish psychology education. The participants discussed strategies to strengthen the subject's presence, both through independent courses or collaborations with other institutions.

A concrete result of the workshop was to establish a network for critical perspectives on psychological science, with regular meetings and seminars. Those responsible for the workshop will investigate the possibilities of seeking funding and developing the network further.
