Mindfulness-Based Stress Management

We are happy to announce that in spring 2025, the free-standing course Mindfulness-Based Stress Management (7,5 hp)will be offered again, at the advanced level (180 credits). The schedule is not yet set, but to give you an idea of the set-up and schedule, please find the spring 2024 course details here.

Mindfulness – a research-based practice for health and well-being

Mindfulness is about being purposefully aware, in the moment, without judgement. A large body of research demonstrates that the practice of mindfulness leads to a higher sense of control, lower perceived stress, and improved health and well-being.

Program developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, USA

The core of the course is the 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program, developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, USA.

The MBSR program is often called the flagship of mindfulness-based interventions, and is taught at top universities around the world including the Ivy League universities in the USA and Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm.

What you will learn

Participants will learn to use mindfulness as an evidence-based tool for stress management, well-being, and health in their personal and professional life. This can be particularly helpful for people working in stressful environments and fields where they encounter different forms of trauma, such as healthcare, social work, police and correctional services, sustainable development, aid in conflict zones and post-conflict peacebuilding.

When, where and how

The Mindfulness-Based Stress Management course will run at part-time (50%) over the first 10 weeks of the spring term 2025 (January 20 – March 30, 2025), on campus.

The course entails the following elements:

The first eight weeks of the course (corresponding to calendar weeks 4-11):

  • one 3-hour session per week
  • the silent retreat day on Saturday March 1, 2025, at 8:30am–4:00 pm.

These sessions, including the silent retreat day, are mandatory. Between sessions, participants will practice guided meditations and yoga at home, for 30 mins to 1 hour per day.

The last two weeks of the course (weeks 12 & 13):

  • three lectures (voluntary participation)
  • two examining seminars (mandatory, dates TBD)

More detailed information for the spring 2025 Mindfulness class will come shortly!
