The war in Ukraine is the first large-scale international armed conflict in Europe since World War II. The perpetrators of this war as yet enjoy impunity for numerous violations of international criminal law. Gleb Bogush will discuss the application of the definitions of the crime of aggression, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide with regard to crimes committed in the war. He will also address the challenges facing the investigating of international crimes and the prosecution of responsible persons.
Prior to March 2022, Gleb Bogush was Associate Professor at Moscow State University and HSE University in Moscow, where he taught public international law and international criminal law. His research interests include international public law, international criminal law, international justice. His most recent publications and presentations deal with the issues of criminal responsibility for core international crimes, the national implementation of international law in the Russian legal order, and the history of international criminal justice. He is an editorial board member at Criminal Law Forum and Revue Internationale de Droit Pénal. He is a member of the International Law Association Committee on the Use of Force. He is included in the list of assistants to counsel before the International Criminal Court.
