Run4Health 2018 reaches out to Uppsala, Stockholm and Copenhagen

Run4Health, the student driven activity to increase public awareness on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, will return in 2018 with full support from EIT Health. This year reaching out to citizens in Uppsala, Stockholm and Copenhagen.

Run4Health premiered in 2017 with students of medicine and pharmacy interacting with runners and their audience at various Swedish street races to inform about issues related to physical activity. With financial and administrative support from EIT Health the initiative has continued to develop as a Swedish-Danish joint venture, this year appearing at street races Blodomloppet in Uppsala on May 17th and Midnattsloppet in Stockholm on August 17th, as well as Kulturnatten in Copenhagen on October 12th.

– Sitting has become the new smoking, and we need to keep inform about the importance of breaking unhealthy habits to increase the chances of a long and healthy life. Within Run4Health we integrate students, citizens and the public and private sector to bridge knowledge barriers and achieve empowerment of a healthy self management, says Catharina Svensson, professor at Uppsala University.

Participating students will join a preparatory course to learn processes for interdisciplinary teamwork and public patient interactions, aiming to inspire citizens as well as assembling needs and challenges that pose hinders to a healthy life style and individualized health care.
– By concentrating our efforts to three large city events that gather populations that are likely willing to learn more and to contribute with experiences and ideas in these issues, we have great expectations on what Run4Health 2018 can add in our mission to take on Europe's health-related challenges, concludes Catharina Svensson.
