Researcher in microbiology
At the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology
The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is one of the most international, broad and distinguished biomolecular departments in Europe, comprising six research programs covering subjects such as bioinformatics, microbiology, and biophysics.
The Wagner group within the microbiology program at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology seeks a postdoctoral researcher to study the mechanisms employed by regulatory RNAs in bacteria to affect motility/ biofilm decisions. We are an international team of ambitious researchers from different backgrounds who study various aspects of RNA-mediated control of bacterial gene expression.
Duties: Research within microbiology/ biochemistry. Construction of strains carrying genetic modifications that impact regulation. Phenotypic tests to elucidate the effect of mutations on regulation. Biochemical assays to investigate molecular mechanisms of action: RNA-RNA interactions, interactions between proteins and regulatory RNAs, effects of RNAs on protein synthesis (here: target mRNAs), consequences of cell-cell variation in connection with regulation (phenotypic heterogeneity), MACs and FACS analyses. Mentorship of younger lab personnel may be part of the duties.
Requirements: A PhD degree and a scientific background in microbiology or a related area is required. Documented strong experimental background in microbiology/ biochemistry with a focus of relevance (see Duties above) is required. Documented demonstration of scientific skills, e.g. publications with in the field as defined above. Excellent communication skills in English, orally and in writing, is a prerequisite for employment. Scioentific proficiency, learning ability, and social/collaborative skills will be evaluated by interview.
Application: Your application should contain a copy of your PhD diploma, a short CV, a cover letter, and contact information for at least two prior supervisors or other professors who are willing to provide letters of reference.
