Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our mission is to pursue top-quality research and education and to interact constructively with society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has 42,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of SEK 6.7 billion.
The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is one of the most international, broad and distinguished biomolecular departments in Europe, comprising six research programs covering subjects such as bioinformatics, microbiology, and biophysics.
A postdoctoral position in computational chemistry is available in David van der Spoel’s research group. The group works on development of force fields for molecular dynamics simulations. Large-scale quantum chemistry calculations are combined with databases of experimental data as the foundation of the work. We use an in-house developed software-library to refine our models. The force field are tested using simulations of liquids and biological systems.
Duties: Perform high-throughput molecular simulations of chemical and biological systems and analyze the results by comparison with experimental data or data from quantum chemistry calculations. We study, for example, the physical properties of liquids and gases as part of the development of a new force field for molecular dynamics simulations. Development of code in the GROMACS software suite and scripting in Python. Parameterization of force fields.
Requirements: Ph.D. in chemistry, physics or similar, with specialization in e.g. physical chemistry, quantum chemistry, statistical mechanics, molecular dynamics simulations. Very good programming skills are required in particular in C++11 and Python. Experience of working with big data or high-performance computing is a plus. The applicants PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application date.
Uppsala University strives to be an inclusive workplace that promotes equal opportunities and attracts qualified candidates who can contribute to the University’s excellence and diversity. We welcome applications from all sections of the community and from people of all backgrounds.
