The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 70 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph. D. program.
The Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP) at Uppsala University is the Worlds leading provider of data on organized violence, and it is a unique source of information on conflicts around the world. The program has been based at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research since the 1980s.
UCDP is now hiring a part-time (50 %) research assistant for the period 180401-190331.
Work assignments: Assist the program in the start-up phase of a new project focusing on the conflict in Syria, go through Arabic sources and code violent events in UCDP's online coding system.
- Master degree in a subject that is relevant for the project.
- Good knowledge of Arabic.
- In-depth understanding of the Middle East in general and Syria in particular.
- Experience of working within research projects in the field of Peace-and Conflict research.
- Proficiency in English (both verbally and in Writing).
- Good knowledge of UCDP and its definitions.
- Ability to cooperate and work in a group as well as work independently.
