Duties/Project description: The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Uppsala University invites applications for a postdoctoral position in stellar astrophysics, funded through a Swedish Research Council (VR) grant. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to work on developing high-precision stellar spectrum analysis techniques, with emphasis on the physics of stellar atmospheres. The VR project focusses on making advances regarding atomic data and processes, non-LTE- and 3D- modelling relevant to solar-type (F, G, K) stellar atmospheres and their spectra. Problems at the interface between stellar spectroscopy and atomic physics, and their applications to radiative transfer modelling, are of particular interest. Applicants with backgrounds in stellar physics, stellar spectroscopy, atomic and molecular (astro)physics, and/or quantum chemistry, are encouraged to apply.
The position includes adequate funding for computers and travel. The successful applicant will also have the possibility to access SNIC (Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing), as well as a range of observational facilities such as the ESO (European Southern Observatory) and the SST (Swedish Solar Telescope).
Requirements: To qualify for an employment as a postdoctor you must have a PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in Physics, Astronomy or equivalent. The PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. The three year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.
Your application should contain a letter describing the applicant and her/his qualifications and research interests. It should also contain a CV including contact information for at least two reference persons, copies of relevant degrees, and a full publication list. Personal circumstances that may be of relevance in the evaluation, for example periods of parental leave, should be mentioned in the CV.
