Researcher in vertebrate palaeontology

The Department of Organismal Biology teaches and explores the evolution, development and function on the organismal level. For more information see www.iob.uu.se.

Duties: Investigate the anatomy, especially the tooth-bearing bones, of acanthothoracid placoderms - a group of extinct armoured fishes from the Early Devonian (419-393 million years ago). The project will be based principally on microtomographic data from Czech acanthothoracids. Specific tasks include reconstructing the anatomy, especially the skull and jaws, from tomographic data; carry out phylogenetic analyses of the acanthothoracids on the basis of these data and interpretations; and present the results in articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Requirements: PhD in palaeontology or equivalent. Postdoctoral research experience on early vertebrates, especially acanthohtoracids and other placoderms. Fluent spoken and written English.

Additional qualifications: Experience of reconstructing fossils from tomographic data.
