Six PhD students in mathematics, applied mathematics or statistics

The Department of Mathematics conducts research and provides education at undergraduate and graduate levels in mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics. The number of employees is 120, including 30 PhD students. The Department has three research programs: analysis and probability, algebra and geometry, applied mathematics and statistics. Duties: The duties of a PhD student are primarily directed at his/her own research education, which lasts for four years. The work may also involve, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), other departmental duties, mainly related to teaching undergraduate courses – in which case the position may be extended to maximum five years.

Requirements: In order to be employed as doctoral student, the candidate has to be admitted to the research education program, and for this, his/her potential ability to pursue the program is decisive. The applicant should have a master´s degree or equivalent which includes a bachelor degree or equivalent in mathematics, applied mathematics or statistics or at least in all likelihood obtain such a degree no later than 1 September, 2021. The candidate should have a good command of spoken and written English.

Application: A complete application should include a short and concise description of research interests, previous experiences and future expectations, Curriculum Vitae, copies of diplomas and certificates of grades, a copy of the master´s degree dissertation (or a preliminary outline thereof) and contact details of up to three referees. We do not want any letters of recommendation.

Salary: According to local agreement for PhD students.
 
Starting date: 1 September 2021 or as otherwise agreed.

Type of employment: Temporary position according to the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 5 § 7.

Scope of employment: 100 %.
