Research assistant, Department of Peace and Conflict Research

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer Courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 80 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. For more information, visit www.pcr.uu.se.

The Department and the VR-Project the Moral Psychology of Grievances (project leader Magnus Öberg) is now looking to hire a research assistant for three months, starting in June 2021.

Work assignments: The research assistant shall, based on original historical source materials, study political mass communication in inter-war Germany from a moral psychology perspective, and classify messages by political parties based on Moral Foundations Theory (MFT). Together with the project leader the research assistant shall also author a report describing the results. Other administrative tasks may also occur.

Qualifications: Applicants must have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Peace and Conflict studies or an education deemed equivalent
  • Good knowledge of political violence and theories of peace and conflict
  • Independent analytical ability
  • Very good English in speech and writing
  • Fluent German
  • Good knowledge of Moral Foundations Theory (MFT)
  • Previous experience of similar data collection work.

Desirable/merit: Knowledge of parties and politics in inter-war Germany.
The recruitment process will look at qualifications, merits and personal suitability.

Salary: Individual salary.

Starting date: 8 June 2021, or as otherwise agreed.

Type of employment: Temporary position ending 8 September 2021 (3 months).
