The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Ångström Laboratory provides an innovative and international research environment that can take on technical and societal challenges both now and in the future. The department has 8 divisions including Myfab, our infrastructure for cleanroom based research.
At the Division of Solid State Physics, we perform both basic and application-oriented research related to energy and environmental aspects in different research areas. We investigate physical and chemical properties of nanomaterials and compounds whether it be for smart windows, gas sensors, photocatalytic coatings, spintronics and biomagnetic applications or to create new magnetic materials for environmentally friendly energy technology.
Description of the subject area of the employment: The subject area comprises nanoscale functional materials in nanoscale, in particular strongly correlated electron systems for energy and environmental applications. The research includes fundamental aspects of the materials, with special focus on magnetic properties with a clear vision of their use in present-day energy and environmental applications. The research involves the development and use of bottom-up synthesis techniques, such as sol-gel and solid phase synthesis, measurement methods for characterizing the physical properties of the materials, and top-down process methods for manufacturing the materials in nanoscale. The subject area also includes low-dimensional quantum materials.
- Solar-gel and solid-phase synthesis of strongly correlated electron systems with functional magnetic properties.
- Thin film deposition of strongly correlated electron systems with functional magnetic properties.
- Top-down process methods for nanostructuring of thin films of strongly correlated electron systems with functional magnetic properties.
- Magnetic, electrical thermodynamic characterization of strongly correlated electron systems with Magnetic Property Measurement System (MPMS) and Physical Property Measurement System (PPMS).
- Structural characterization of highly correlated electron systems with X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy.
- Apply for research grants from Swedish and European research foundations.
Qualiﬁcations Required: Doctoral degree in solid state physics or equivalent. We require documented long-standing knowledge and experience of solar-gel and solid-phase synthesis of strongly correlated electron systems, measurement methods for characterizing physical properties of the materials, and top-down process methods for manufacturing the materials in nanoscale.
Applicants must have received external research grants for their own research in competition.
We require very good oral and written skills in English.
Large emphasis will be put on personal qualities such as independence, drive and good collaboration skills, as well as how the applicant, through his or her experience and competence, is judged to complement and strengthen ongoing research within the research division.
When assessing the applications, special emphasis will be put on the applicant's documented experience of publishing scientific papers in high-quality journals and giving presentations at scientific meetings.
