Postdoc researcher position in nanochromism and engineered thin films

Published: 2022-05-06

The deadline for applying to this position has passed.

Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our ultimate goal is to conduct education and research of the highest quality and relevance to make a long-term difference in society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has over 54,000 students, more than 7,500 employees and a turnover of around SEK 8 billion.

The Department of Solid State Physics (SSP) is part of the Department of Materials Science at the Ångström Laboratory. At the department, we work with both basic and applied research in energy and environmental issues. Preferably, we investigate the physical and chemical properties of nanomaterials and new materials that can be used as thin films for chromism (smart windows, displays), solar cells, gas sensors (indoor environment, exhaled air), spin electronics and biomagnetic applications, as well as catalytic and photocatalytic coatings to create new applications in green energy technology (water purification, air purification, synthetic fuels).

Work duties: Work in ongoing research projects on nanochromic thin films, as well as wetting properties of such films, as well as super acidic binary metal oxide films. The work includes experimental work with combined sputter and polymer-based nanostructuring methodology, synthesis of lanthanide oxyhydrides and sulfated titanium dioxide. Material characterization of films with X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, spectrophotometry, FTIR, electrical transport measurements, TOF-SIMS, data analysis and report writing. Shorter research stays in Korea, within the STINT project "nanochromism", are part of the work.

Qualification requirements: Doctoral degree in materials science and /or engineering. Documented knowledge, competence and experience in the production of nanochromic oxide films with physical deposition technology, especially magnetron sputtering and nanostructuring of films with polymer template technology, as well as of material characterization techniques such as electron microscopy, XRD and FTIR and electrical measurement technology; especially electrical transport measurements.

We require many years of experience and documented scientific documentation of work in thin film synthesis and nano- and microstructuring of oxide films.

We require good oral and written skills in English.

Personal qualities, such as the ability to lead and run projects and at the same time be able to interact with other researchers are very important. You must be purposeful, structured and be able to work effectively both individually and in groups. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

The application must contain a CV, list of publications, copies of diplomas and other relevant documents. We are happy to see that you provide information about reference persons or attach a letter of recommendation.
