Research assistant for English/French historical research project

The Department of History of Science and Ideas is a dynamic research environment with strong profiles in history of science, global intellectual history and history of medicine. It is Sweden’s largest centre for study within this field and is internationally renowned for its research. Duties                                                                                                                                       
The research project International Ideas at UNESCO (INIDUN) is seeking a research assistant (forskningsassistent). Based at Uppsala University’s Department of History of Science and Ideas, the research project conducts digital analysis of texts produced by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) from 1945 to 2015. The tasks for the research assistant include assisting in curating these texts: that is, proof-reading digitized text files and inserting labels into the files at particular places (“tagging”). The texts are in English and French. 

Requirements                                                                                                                                  To qualify for this employment as a research assistant you must have at least an undergraduate degree, or currently be conducting undergraduate-level university studies, preferably in the humanities or social sciences. Candidates must have excellent command of English as well as good reading ability in French, and have the capacity to work both independently and in collaboration with a team. Patience and attention to detail are a must.

Additional qualifications
Experience of research and data management, including competence with software programs such as Excel and Visual Studio Code, will be considered merits. Knowledge of research on modern history, the history of science and ideas, and/or international relations is also a merit. Emphasis will be placed on the candidate’s ability to work independently as well as personal suitability

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position lasting until 2022-07-01. Scope of employment 20 %. Starting date 2022-05-23 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala.
