The Higher Educations' Climate Network
Universities and colleges in Sweden have joined together in an effort to contribute to sustainability, and formed the Higher Educations' Climate Network. Among other things, the network aims to make it easier for universities to fulfill their part of the Paris Agreement.
By strengthening the collaboration and increasing the exchange between the universities, new perspectives and ideas may be gained on how research and education can contribute to a sustainable transformation for climate action and how the climate footprint of the higher education sector can be reduced.
Akademiska Hus
Together with Akademiska Hus, the University has developed several cooperation agreements with a strong focus on sustainability. In 2023, another new cooperation agreement was signed with the aim of jointly working for long-term conditions for a sustainable and efficient local supply.
Uppsala Klimatprotokoll Uppsala Climate Protocol
Since 2011, Uppsala University, together with some 40 organisations, has been a member of the Uppsala Climate Protocol (UKP). UKP is an environmental network that was initiated by Uppsala Municipality in 2010. The purpose is to collaborate and inspire each other with the goal of achieving Uppsala's climate goals and contributing to a sustainable world.
County Administrative Board in Uppsala County
The University participates in the County Administrative Board's "Roadmap for a Sustainable County". The roadmap includes four regional action programmes that contribute to achieving Swedens national environmental objectives. By signing sustainability pledges, the county's stakeholders can undertake to carry out activities that contribute to the regional work. The University has signed sustainability pledges in all four action programmes: Reduced Climate Impact, Ecosystems & Biodiversity, Water, and Community Development.
In total, the university has signed 43 sustainability pledges currently.
The Matariki Network's Climate Group
The Matariki Network, named after the Maori word for the constellation Pleiades, is a university network with seven members from around the world. The network's motto is "Partnership for a better world" and includes collaborations within all of the universities' areas of activity.
