There are a few, but important, practical things you need to do before coming to Sweden. On this page you will find all the information you need to get prepared.

Arriving in Sweden
An Orientation Programme is arranged prior to each term start and provides students with information about all kinds of facilities and activities they need in order to make the most of their stay in Uppsala or Visby.

New student?
Congratulations on your admission to Uppsala University! The student pages are your new home as an admitted student at Uppsala University. There you will find all information needed about your time as a student in Uppsala or Visby.

Finding a buddy
Would you like to meet a local student? You can sign up to be assigned a Buddy through the Student Union in Uppsala and for Campus Gotland students the Student Union Rindi offers welcome activities in Visby.
Student discount card

In order to get student discounts and fares (for example on train tickets), you cannot use your student id, you need a special card from Studentkortet (it replaces the old Mecenat card). This card serves also as a nation card if you have joined a nation.
You can receive this card in either of the following ways:
- Join a student nation and/or student union. You do not need to apply for the card separately as it will be sent automatically to your listed address. Please make sure that you have updated this information yourself.
- If you do not wish to join a student nation and/or union, you can still apply for the card. However, you will need to submit your temporary Swedish Personal Identity Number and a certificate of registration for your exchange semester(s) at Uppsala University.
How to find your way around?
There are twelve campus areas at Uppsala University, with research and education in a broad spectrum of subjects. Eleven of these are located in Uppsala, while the twelfth is located in Visby on the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea.
