Entry requirements: Prerequisites equivalent to 40 hp of the courses included in year one of the Master's programme in infection biology or equivalent. This corresponds to in-depth knowledge of the biological mechanisms regulating infectious processes, how infections are diagnosed and treated and knowledge of microbial epidemiology and evolution. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
About the course
The course provides knowledge of infectious diseases from a global perspective ("One health") through applied issues of an infectious spread between animals and humans (zoonotic infections and epizootic infections) and foodborne infections. Monitoring, control and prevention tools are discussed at a local and global level. From the global perspective focused attention is given to the developing countries' challenges in managing infectious diseases.
The course consists of three modules:
- Infections in animals and humans (5 credits)
- Food Safety (5 credits)
- Global Health (5 credits)
The course is part of the third semester of the Master's Programme in Infection Biology.
