About the Subject
Media and communication studies (MCS)address the role of media and communication processes in society. Particular emphasis is placed on the study of new digital media and communication technologies and the new forms of communication that occurs, for example on the Internet and through social media
Of concern in the media studies field is everything related to media and mass media, for example how the traditional media - press, radio and television - are acting in the new convergent and global media environment. The rapid changes in the media landscape, media history, media politics, media economics, media law and media cultures as well as media use and effects are important themes.
In the communication field focus is placed on strategic communication and the role of communication for organising and organisations. Organisational communication and strategic communication is studied in relation to digital and global societal changes. Strategic interpersonal communication is also covered.
Media and Communication Studies is an interdisciplinary field, and builds upon perspectives and theories from social sciences and humanities. The studies are mainly focused on media and communication in relation to social change, power, identity and globalisation.
The courses take a broad theoretical and analytical approach, and are designed to provide the students with knowledge and skills that are useful in a variety of professional activities, directly or indirectly related to the field of media and communication.
